About Us:
The Drug, Water & Food Testing Laboratory, Gilgit-Baltistan (DW&FTL Gilgit-Baltistan) is a regulatory laboratory operating under the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. Established to ensure the safety and quality of essential consumables, the laboratory plays a vital role in public health protection across the region.
DW&FTL Gilgit-Baltistan functions in accordance with The Drugs Act, 1976, which mandates that “Each Provincial Government shall, as soon as may be, set up a Provincial Drug Testing Laboratory for such purposes as may be prescribed.” In alignment with this directive, the laboratory was brought under the framework of The Drugs Act, 1976, for Drugs testing and and is further governed by the Gilgit-Baltistan Drug Rules, 2014, and on So Moto Order of Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit Baltistan for Water & Food testing, the DW&FTL GB is further declared as the provincial laboratory for testing of drugs, water and food samples by Govt of Gilgit Baltistan. The Drug, Water & Food Testing Laboratory, Gilgit-Baltistan receives drug samples from Notified Provincial Inspector of Drugs, and it submits its Test report after analysis of samples to the concerned authority i.e. Provincial Quality Control Board (PQCB). Provincial Quality Control Board (PQCB) is the board formed under The Drugs Act 1976 where it states the following; while for food and water samples the DW&FTL GB receives samples from Food department, Food Inspectors of District administration and general public and submit report to concern department and consolidated monthly report to Secretary Health GB.
